A woman is the centre of every household, the glue that holds the family together. Varam, MGM's dedicated centre for women, was built with the aspiration to shine focus on girls and women and bring necessary awareness to the healthcare they receive.
While women are to be loved, honoured and cherished every day, the world together celebrates women and their numerous achievements on one very special day — March 8, International Women's Day. This Women's Day, come and witness the amalgamation of past and present, tradition and modernity on a stage fit for three queens — Suhasini Maniratnam, Lakshmi Vishwanathan and Saraswathi Krishnakumar.

An illiterate child bride, Vai Mu Kothainayaki went on to become a celebrated writer, public speaker, freedom fighter, editor of a magazine and an accomplished classical singer. As a trained midwife, she found it her duty to help all women, irrespective of caste or creed. Her fiery words and thought-provoking speeches had her arrested during the freedom movement, but she remained undeterred. She led her entire life in public and social service. She will be brought to life on our stage by National Award-winner Suhasini Maniratnam.
MS Subbulakshmi was one of India's greatest Carnatic singers. The first-ever musician to be awarded the prestigious Bharat Ratna award, behind MS Subbulakshmi's meteoric rise and international popularity was a story of grit and determination. Bringing the Carnatic maestro to life on stage at MGM Healthcare is renowned Bharatanatyam guru Padma Shri Lakshmi Vishwanathan. A breathtaking 15-minute performance, this enactment will trace unknown facets of MS Subbulakshmi's life through her songs.
Enacted by Danseuse Saraswathi Krishnakumar, her performance is a true life story of a young girl born with a congenital deformity who grew up to become an accomplished dancer and a corporate lawyer. This story is narrated through the voice of her mother who spared no effort towards her treatment and rehabilitation. Today she gives dance performances around the world with a titanium rod in the place of her spine. Saraswathi Krishnakumar will also be performing a piece on the life of Draupadi, the tragic heroine of the Mahabharata.
